How Foosball, a 2x4 (ft) wide approx wooden table with eight aluminum handles and two goal posts is bridging the gap between different teams in my office.
A few months back Social Circle was introduced in our office aiming to include employees from different teams and engaging them in activities for better work culture environment. Activities like Cricket tournament, Planting trees, Philanthropy, Birthday Celebrations, Monthly recognitions, Office entertainment, and leisure were included in Social Circle. Foosball stood tall amongst all these activities in bringing together various individuals from different teams leaving behind any gender or rank worries.
Girls and boys playing together with equal force, competing against each skill and dribbling the ball around to score power goals. Foosball has become a craze now in the office. People wait for their turns and reserve their places to play the next game.
In the world of technology where mobile games, AR/VR entertainment is so widely available, you don’t need to leave your workstation to entertain yourself. You may scroll through your social media wall or giggle at reading silly jokes on WhatsApp, whereas in Foosball you require physical energy of your hands to take power shots, tactical brain to maneuver the ball and a soft touch to cheekily sneak-in the goal post.
Team members who sit at an arms distance in their cubicles may not talk every day. Individuals may hesitate to initiate a conversation with someone who they haven’t talked to before, but in-house activities like these surely bring people together and inculcate the best work culture where everyone is equal. You get to know each other, which bridge the gap between teams as it encourages accessibility and cooperativeness.
